Why do we use a Delayed-Release DuoCap in the Essential Microbiome?Updated 2 hours ago
The DuoCap houses two complementary ingredients in a single capsule - keeping them separate for stability and delivering them in a delayed-release format:
- The outer capsule (liquid filled) is delayed-release HPMC that holds the tributary oil and dissolves in the small intestine, where lipase hydrolyzes tributyrin into butyrate to nourish the intestinal lining and support a healthy inflammatory response.
- The inner capsule (dry powder filled) holds the pasteurized Akkermansia powder. Once the outer capsule opens in the small intestine, the inner capsule releases the Akkermansia, where its bioactive surface protein (Amuc_1100) engages the intestinal epithelium to support barrier function and metabolic signaling.
Why this format matters: Keeping the ingredients separate allows us to combine incompatible ingredients into a single format. It improves their shelf-life stability, and protects each ingredient through the harsh stomach environment so they can both reach the gut intact.
