Why is Essential Microbiome a Postbiotic instead of a Prebiotic or Probiotic, and what is the difference?Updated 3 hours ago

Most gut health supplements fall into one of two categories:

  • Probiotics add live bacteria to your gut (e.g., Seed, Pendulum, most live strain products)
  • Prebiotics add fiber to feed the bacteria you already have (e.g., inulin, chicory root)

Both depend on your gut to do the work. Probiotics need live bacteria to survive stomach acid, reach the gut intact, and produce beneficial compounds once they get there. Prebiotics need your existing microbiome to be healthy enough to ferment fiber into those same compounds.

Postbiotics skip the middle man and deliver the end result that pre- and probiotics are meant to produce, without depending on your gut to do the work.
